The world of beauty is about to get ugly they say, well it definitely gets ugly. Like A Boss is an American comedy film starring Tiffany Haddish, Rose Byrne and Salma Hayek. Tiffany Haddish (Mia Carter) and Rose Byrne (Mel Paige) are the co-owners of Mel and Mia’s Cosmetic’s Company. They have been best friend for years and are on a mission to conquer the industry, things start falling apart when they bump into financial issues that most entrepreneurs encounter in growing and sustaining a business. They get approached by Salma Hayek (Claire Luna), a cosmetics industry guru, and she gives them an offer they can’t refuse.
I’ll give this movie a 6/10. The movie didn’t really catch my attention, I found myself thinking about my life during the movie. A good movie makes me forget about my life for a while. However, it had one funny moment which had me in stitches. It’s not bad, it’s a good light watch and has some life lessons that were great to be reminded of again, such as:
- Never letting go of the people you started with and have supported you in life.
- Never make a decision based of desperation
- Do a lot of research before accepting any life changing deals.
- Chase after your dreams and never give up.
What I loved about this movie? It’s female based, all the leads are female. All you see are women who are empowered and want to conquer the world. They are go-getting entrepreneurs who want to build empires, chase their dreams and secure the bag!
I also like how the movie is inclusive and had representation of multiple races (black, white, Latino). We need more movies that celebrate all races, ethnicities and cultures. We need to be given equal opportunities to show our talent and capabilities, as well as our stories.
